Gurdial Singh Toor was born on 30 September 1929 in Sawadi, Khas, Punjab, India.

His family emigrated to Kenya in 1927 from Punjab, India.

He played hockey for Kenya, Nairobi and Sikh Union Club, Nairobi in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

He played for Kenya against the visiting Indian team in January 1948.

He played for Nairobi Combined team against the Indian Navy team in Nairobi in June 1949.

He played for Kenya against the touring British and Irish hockey team in Nairobi in September 1951.

He moved to Uganda in the late 1950s.

He played for Sikh Union Kampala.

He won his Uganda international cap, against Zanzibar on 25 February 1959, during the East African Championships played in Kampala.

He was appointed captain of the Uganda team in 1959 during India's tour of Uganda.

He was awarded his FIH Umpiring badge in 1969.

He emigrated to the UK in 1972 and now resides in Punjab, India.
