Kalbir Singh Takher was born in Wolverhampton in England, He studied at Highfield School in Wolverhampton and Wolverhampton University. An attacking midfielder, he played for English Premier League Club, Cannock.

He earned his first England cap in April 1993 when he was selected to play against Germany in Celle, Germany.

He played at Sydney 1994 World Cup and won a Bronze medal at European Nations Cup in Dublin in 1995.

He was Cannock Hockey Club Captain.

After retiring from playing international hockey he took up coaching. He coached Nottingham and Peterborough to promotion to the National Premier League and guided Olton & West Warwicks Ladies to the final of a European Championship.

He also coached Oxford University, Peterborough Town, Slough Ladies and Stourport Hockey Clubs.
