Malkit Singh Sondh was born in Jinja, Uganda. His parents had emigrated to Uganda in 1942. He studied at Government Primary School,Jinja; Magwa Primary School, Jinja; Jinja Public Secondary School and Jinja Senior Secondary School. He played and captained the hockey teams for his School.
He captained and played for Sikh Union Jinja from 1964 - 1966 and Simba Union Kampala from 1967 - 1972.
He was awarded his first international cap against Zanzibar in 1964 at the age of 16.
He represented Uganda at the annual East African Championships, the International Tournament in Cairo, Egypt in 1966 and the 6 Nations Tournament in Kenya in March 1968.
He represented Uganda at Munich 1972 Olympic Games and after the Games emigrated to the UK.
In 1974 he played for Sikh Union Nairobi who won the M R D'Souza Gold Cup for the record ninth time.
He played and coached Indian Gymkhana, London from 1973 - 1978.
He resides in the UK.
