Sukhdev Singh was born on 18 December 1925 in Nairobi, Kenya. His family had emigrated to Kenya in 1910.

He was educated at S.D.P. High School, Ludhiana, Punjab.

On returning back to Kenya he played hockey for the Asian Civil Service team which later became the Civil Service Club.

He was involved, in administrative roles, with the Kenya Hockey Union (K.H.U.) from the mid-fifties.  

He was the Secretary of selection committee for the Melbourne 1956 Olympic Games, match Secretary of K.H.U. in 1959 and member of the National selection and training committee in 1961.

He became the Secretary of Kenya Hockey Union in 1963 and later became a Vice Chairman in 1966.

He was the Secretary of East African Hockey Union from 1963 to 1965 and the Chairman from 1965 to 1969.

He was the Team Manager at Munich 1972 Olympic Games and Managed the Kenya team on several tours abroad.

He was General Manager of Kenya team at the Commonweath Games in Edinburgh in 1970.

He was a member of Kenya Olympic Committee, a council member of Kenya Sports Council and member of Nairobi Hockey Association.

He died in Nairobi on 7 September 2015.
