Rajdeep (Raj) Singh Laly was born on 15 March 1984 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.

He attended Boundary Oak School, Fareham, Hampshire until 1996. Then Portsmouth Grammar School 1996-2002 where he was 1st XI Hockey Captain from 2000-2002. He Studied medicine at St Bartholomew and Royal London Medical School from 2002-2007.

All his family were involved in hockey from their Kenya days. His uncle, Ravinder Laly, had represented Kenya at Barcelona World Cup and had played for Havant Hockey Club in the 1970s and Slough Hockey Club in the 1980s. No wonder he took up hockey at the age of 12.

He represented England U16's at the Home Nations Tournament in the season 1999/2000 and earned his first U16 international cap when he played against Ireland in Large, Scotland on 7 April 2000.

He was also in the England U18 Academy from 2000-2002 and He Captained Hampshire U16 and South of England U17 teams.

He played for Old Loughtonians from 2003 to 2005 and Indian Gymkhana from 2005 to  2009.

He was Captain of Indian Gymkhana in 2008 - 09 season  when the Club finished as runners up in the National League Division 1.

He played for Havant from 2009 - 2018, captaining the team that won the South Premier League in 2016 - 17 season.

He was Head Coach of Havant 1st team from 2018 - 20 and has been the Club's Performance Director since  2020.

He has been Vice Chairman of Havant Hockey Club since 2019.
