Jagjit Singh was born in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia and educated at Anglo Chinese School, Ipoh.

He played for the Army team and was selected for the Junior World Cup in Kuala Lumpur in 1982. That same year he played for Malayia at the Asian Games in New Delhi, winning the Bronze medal.

He played at the Azlan Shah Cup in 1982, 1985 and 1990 and also played at the Asian Games in 1986.

He played at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games.

He won "Armed Forces Sportsman of the Year Award" in 1984.
