Gian Singh studied at King Edward School, Taiping, Perak, Malaysia. He played for Malaysian Police and for Selangor Club.
Gian Singh represented Malaysia at the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo.
At the peak of his playing career, he wore Panang colours from 1949 to 1952; then turned out for Selangor from 1953 to 1956, besides representing South in their annual classic against the North.
He toured Somatra with the Malayan Sikhs X1 as vice captain in 1954.
He toured Hong Kong with the Malaysian Indians for their inaugural match in 1955.
He also represented the Malaysian Singapore Sports Council team.
Gian read Law at the University of Buckingham, UK at the age of 57 in 1985.
He was called to the Malaysian Bar at 61 years of age.
Before he turned to law studies, Gian served in the Royal Malaysian Police Force from 1949.
He retired as Assistant Commissioner of Police, Malaysia and then embarked on his legal career.
Gian Singh died on 12.11.2004 in Kuala Lumpur aged 76.
