Davinder Singh Deegan was born in Nairobi, Kenya. His parents had emigrated to Kenya in 1946. His father, Harbans Singh played hockey for Sikh Union Nairobi from 1946 to 1954.
He started playing hockey while studying at Park Road Primary School, Nairobi. He continued playing hockey when he moved to Technical High School, Nairobi and was the captain in 1962.
He played for Kenya Police from 1962 to 1964 and Sikh Union Nairobi from 1965 to1979.
He played for the President's X1 to play against Pakistan in Nairobi in August 1965 and earned his first international cap for Kenya when he played against Uganda at the East African Championships in Kampala in December 1965. He scored two goals on his debut.
He was a member of Kenya team that toured Europe and participated at the Hamburg tournament in 1966.
He represented Kenya at Mexico 1968 Olympic Games and was the third leading goal scorer in these Games. He also played at Munich 1972 Olympic Games.
He represented Kenya in the 1st World Hockey Cup in Barcelona, Spain in 1971 where Kenya finished 4th. and the 2nd World Hockey Cup in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1973.
He was selected for the 1976 Montreal Games which Kenya pulled out from whilst the team were in the Olympic village in Montreal.
He emigrated to the UK in 1979.
He now resides in the UK.
